Service · Hedge reduction
Reduction is a different job from a routine trim: cutting a hedge that has genuinely outgrown its space back down, in a way that doesn't leave it dead on one face for the next five years.
Leylandii, thuja and other conifers do not regenerate from brown wood. Cut past the green needle-bearing zone in one go and that face stays brown, permanently. On an exposed Tankerton or seafront plot, a hedge that's been left to grow tall as a windbreak often has very little green left low down - which means the safe reduction has to happen over two winters, not one, however much you'd rather it was done in a single visit.
Reductions typically run £300 – £900, more for a multi-year staged sequence on a badly overgrown conifer hedge. We quote the whole sequence up front so there's no surprise on year two.
If the hedge has lost so much green that a single-season reduction would leave it mostly bare wood for years, it usually needs treating as a full overgrown hedge reclamation instead: a proper staged, multi-year plan rather than a routine reduction. We'll say so rather than force a one-off cut that won't recover. Read the full diagnosis guide.
